The forgotten skincare secret

We all know the benefits of sunscreen, right? It’s one of the most basic steps to long-term skin health and a youthful appearance.

Consider what else we know: thin skin succumbs to wrinkles easily. This means the neck, décolletage, and hands show signs of aging. So even if you have been diligent about applying an effective anti-aging regimen (with sunscreen!) to your face since your teenage years, other areas of your skin will easily reveal how long you’ve been around. This may not be a concern for women in their 20’s, but as with many things, getting an early start is a good thing.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

– Benjamin Franklin

The thought

The first Sex and the City movie came out when I was in high school and I immediately became intrigued. I was deeply interested in Sarah Jessica Parker’s image on and off the screen. I remember reading an article about the movie that mentioned how her hands were digitally retouched during post-production. After learning this information, I became more observant of hands. I noticed that many beautiful and sleek women had hands that did not match the skin on their face. I continued to think about hands for years.

The discovery

It wasn’t until I began using an Asian beauty regimen that I acted on my thoughts. My current regimen involves anywhere from four to ten layers of product. I choose to forgo cotton pads and apply the various toners, essences and creams to my face with clean hands. The excess product gets all over my hands and I would rinse and dry between each layer. One day I decided to rub the product into my hands and chest instead of on a towel. It then became a habit. Before I knew it, I noticed a difference in the appearance of my hands. They look great! So much so that I catch myself staring at them. Without needing to purchase another product or add an extra step to an already lengthy grooming regimen, I got a head start preventing something that will no doubt concern me later in life.

The beauty of aging

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting older. Wisdom, grace and full experiences are all gifts of age that I eagerly welcome. I have discovered a simple and effective way to improve my skin care efforts and get the most out of the products I invest in. And it’s a reminder that the little things we do today can have a big impact down the line.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

This is key! It never occurred to me how much product I was wasting “cleaning” my hands after applying it to my face. They need healing too! More life. You got the keys the keys the keys.
